USAID reopened its
mission in Pakistan in 2002 to demonstrate its commitment to
Pakistan, tangibly improve the lives of the poor in Pakistan and
build support for Pakistan's decision to join the international war
on terrorism. Pakistan's stability is critical to U.S. foreign
policy interests. Thirty-eight percent of the population lives below
the poverty line, making programs to increase their incomes a
priority.
USAID has focused its
program directly on the most pressing needs:
-
Economic growth
-
Education
-
Health
-
Governance
